Interesting Profile of an astute Jurist, Hon. Justice Elizabeth Oji’s---[Pls Read!]

His Lordship, Hon. Justice Elizabeth Ama Oji hails from Etiti-Edda, Afikpo South Local Government Area, of Ebonyi State. 


My Lord obtained LLB at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1996 as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.


In fulfilment of her passion for Law, She obtained a Masters Degree in International Law and Jurisprudence from the prestigious University of Nigeria, and another Masters Degree from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in International Humanitarian Law. 


Justice Elizabeth also holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in law, from the same Nnamdi Azikiwe University.


In 1997, immediately after her Youth Service, Hon. Justice Elizabeth A. Oji, cut her teeth as an academia with the Faculty of Law, Abia State University, Uturu.


Furthermore, she joined the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in 1999 as Assistant Lecturer and rose to the rank of an Associate Professor in 2013.


Prior to her appointment to the bench, she taught and researched in various areas, including, Public International Law, Industrial/Labour Law, International Criminal Law, International Humanitarian Law, Law of Labour Relations, Minority Rights Protection and Jurisprudence. 


At Nnamdi Azikiwe University, She equally served in various Faculty and University Committees, including as a Sub-Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies.


She is the author of the book, “Responsibility for Crimes under International Law”, and co-author of  â€œEmployment and Labour Law in Nigeria” and has written over 90 articles/papers both nationally and internationally


She has been in the Editorial team of many journals/newsletters, and also co-editor to the book, “Commercial Law and Practice in Nigeria”. She is a two-time recipient of the United Nations Fellowship in international law, and an Alumna of The Hague Academy of International Law. 


She has served as the Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Enugu State Branch, and National Treasurer, of FIDA Nigeria (2006-2012). 


In 2017, she was appointed to the bench as a Judge of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria and was sworn-in by the then Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. 


As an astute Jurist, Hon. Justice Elizabeth has delivered many landmark judgments and rulings tailored with the jurisdiction of the Court.
