    Justice Esowe, Justice Kola-Olalere, Others Attend 2018 NAWJN Biennial Conference


    It was indeed a colossus gathering of prominent Law-Lords in the judicial circle, as His Lordship, Hon. Justice M. N. Esowe, Hon. Justice F. I. kola-Olalere and many other eminent judges of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria were among the jurists who attended this year edition of the biennial conference of the National Association of Women Judges Nigeria held on 7th to 8th December 2018 at National Judicial Institute, Abuja – Nigeria. The conference theme centers on “Life After The Bench: The Judge Emeritus”.


    NAWJ’s mission is to promote the judicial role of protecting the rights of individuals under the rule of law through strong, committed, diverse judicial leadership; fairness and equality in the courts; and equal access to justice.


    The NAWJN President, Hon. Justice Uwani Musa Abba Aji, JCA in her welcome address expressed that “It is no gainsaying that we shall not remain in service as judicial officers forever. A time will surely come when we have to take a bow, voluntarily or statutorily.


    “Retirement is undoubtedly a phase that we are all destined to experience, sooner or later. Ideally, we must brace up ourselves for that inevitable event. The preparation for life after retirement ought to commence now that we are actively employed."


    Other renowned jurists are Hon. Justice O. A. Obaseki-Osaghae, Hon. Justice A. N. Ubaka, Hon. Justice R. B. Haastrup, Hon. Justice O. O. Oyewumi, Hon. Justice S. O. Adeniyi, Hon. Justice A. A. Adewemimo, Hon. Justice O. A. Ogunbowale, Hon. Justice E. A. Oji and Hon. Justice Zainab M. Bashir and many heavyweight Law Lords across the federation.


    The memorable event also featured celebration of the association Ex-President, Hon. Justice Clara Banta Ogunbiyi, JSC who retired from the Supreme Court after a commendable and impeccable career on the bench. NAWJN’S compendium papers presented at the 1st West African regional conference was published in her lordship’s honor and was officially presented for the gathering.


    In the same vein, The CJN W. S. Onnoghen, GCON was also decorated as Grand Patron of NAWJN Award for his steadfast interest and fatherly support to the association.
