Industrial Court Judge, Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi now Justice of the Court of Appeal

His Lordship, Hon. Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi and 21 other judges have been sworn in as the Justices of the Court of Appeal today Wednesday 10 July 2024 by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Olukayode Ariwoola GCON at the Supreme Court of Nigeria Complex, Abuja.


Historically, Justice Oyewumi became the 3rd Judge of the National Industrial Court to be elevated to the appellate court since the inception of the court as a superior court of record.


My Lord, Justice Oyewumi hails from Ogbomosho in Ogbomosho North LGA of Oyo State.


Justice Oyewumi attended Anglican Primary School, Ogbomosho from 1970 to 1977 for FSLC; Baptist High School, Ogbomosho from 1978 to 1983 for WASC and the University of Lagos, Akoka from 1986 to 1989 for LLB. 


Justice Oyewumi was called to Bar as Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the year 1990. She obtained her LLM from the University of Ibadan in 2003, and also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting and a Certificate in Industrial Relations both from the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Akoka, Lagos State in 2000 and 2011 respectively.

 

Justice Oyewumi performed her NYSC primary assignment with the defunct Savannah Bank, Ilorin in the 1991/92 service year. She started her working career in 1992 with Olujinmi and Akeredolu and Co, law firm, Ibadan as a Legal Pupil. 


In 1993, Justice Oyewumi joined the service of Oyo State Ministry of Justice, Ibadan as Senior Legal Officer and was Director, Legal Services, State House of Assembly from 1979 to 2007. She was Deputy Chief Registrar II, FCT Judiciary, Abuja in 2007. 


She was Chief Magistrate I in the FCT Judiciary before her appointment as a Judge of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria in 2013 and was sworn-in by the then Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Muktar.


Justice Oyewumi JCA is also a member of NBA, IBA, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK and other professional bodies.
