[Update] Industrial Court orders Jigawa Gov to pay 87 Ex-Council Members 39m Severance Allowance

Kano---The Presiding Judge, Kano Judicial division of the National Industrial Court, His Lordship, Hon. Justice E. D. Isele has ordered Jigawa State Governor to pay former State Local Government Council Members, Mr Saleh Danjuma & 86 Others the sum Thirty Nine Million, Eight Hundred and Twenty-Two Thousand, Five hundred and Seventy Nine Naira representing 50% of their outstanding balance having served between 1999 to 2002 as full and final payments of their severance and gratuity allowance.


The Court held that in the spirit of amicable settlement reached, the parties agreed to the above declaration as terms of Settlement and adopted same as Consent Judgment.


From facts, the former council members had sought for an order of the Court directing each Local Government and the state government to jointly or severally pay or cause the payment of N915, 462.41 (Nine Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Sixty Two Naira Forty One Kobo Only) to its respective claimants as severance/gratuity allowance amongst others.
